In October 2004 the Governors at Haydon School comissioned Nick Baker to assist in the planning and construction of the new Languages Building. In order to provide the accommodation within the alloted timeframe the choice of construction methodology was paramount.By selecting 'off site construction' techniques it was possible to identify a 6 month build programme where the contractor was selected at an early stage via 2 stage tendering.
The thirty six 3.6m wide and 10m long pre-made units were delivered to site from Hull on specially assisted articulated vehicles over a period of three weeks with heavy lifting grear located on the school playing fields during the Easter school break. Fit-out commenced on installation with the project being completed for the start of the 2005 Autumn school term.
