Margate is in the process of re-defining its identity as a British costal town. Along with numerous proposals for the waterfront additional residential accommodation is required.
Set back from the main promenade Godwin Road is a prime residential area. Located behind the existing Oval Hotel on Godwin Road is a large brownfield site.
The proposed development replaces the current buildings along Godwin Road and includes for a selection of 2½ storey units to the rear. Located on an underground car park a total of 68 units are contained within contemporary designed blocks. The key characteristics of the neighbouring Victorian buildings have been considered and interpreted to produce a development with facades portraying design restraint and a clarity of purpose.
Attention has been paid to the selection of building materials for the tough marine environment inherent in the UK’s costal towns.
